Children of Vissershoek School getting ready to receive Wishbones!

About the school

Vissershoek primary is an Afrikaans farm school where children from the local settlement and Dunoon (Dunoon has about 14,400 households that live in backyard shacks or informal settlements) get taught grades 1 – 7.

The children are from ages 6 – 15. Classes are between 40 – 60 children.   Volunteers assist with teaching computers and supporting individual children. The computer and technical skills that they learn allow them to have a greater chance of success in today’s technological world. The kids are also taught how to swim, skate and surf. 8 of the surf children obtained top 3 positions in local and provincial trials!

We were assisted with photographs by the highly-talented Deborah Rossouw photography who captured the happiness of all the children receiving their new Wishbones!

Miss Earth contestant Yajna Gold was also on hand to help us hand out new footwear.

About SAVE

SAVE started in 2006 when the need was identified to assist in the local impoverished communities. Many communities, preschools and schools were unable to provide effective programs due to lack of funding, resources and skill levels. With the assistance of volunteers, these shortcomings were addressed and SAVE slowly grew into a large organisation that now provides assistance to several communities in 5 countries across Africa.

We will be posting regular blog updates from Jonas and Daan as well as giveaways for guessing where they are, so keep checking back for new posts! Continue reading
